Teaching Experience

I have a Master of Fine Arts degree in Writing for the Screen and Stage from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Media Screen Studies from Northeastern University. I took a Trauma and Crisis Counseling course as a guest student in UMass Boston’s Master of Science Mental Health Counseling program and received a Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy certification from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2022. I have also received an 8-week Community Teaching Artist Certification through California State University LA in November 2020, where I expanded my professional knowledge of trauma-informed pedagogy and further developed lesson plans that will create safe spaces in classrooms. I am currently pursuing a second Master of Social Work degree in Clinical Social Work from Boston College and am in the process of starting an organization that works to reduce recidivism by creating trauma-informed, therapy-based, restorative creative arts programming in the juvenile justice space, focuses on mental healing through introspective identity work and creative expression, and creates tangible jobs in the entertainment industry for the next generation of historically silenced artists and writers.

I believe that as both a writer and an educator, I have a responsibility to create meaningful and inclusive content and curricula. When teaching, I work hard to formulate digestible syllabi that encourage students to create consciously by challenging them to question what they may see as problematic in the media they consume and what about it might perpetuate and normalize destructive cycles of misogyny, colorism, systemic wealth disparities, racial injustices, etc.

Teaching Coordinator

I work in collaboration with Massachusetts’ Department of Youth Services (DYS) in the juvenile justice space to lead a team of educators and support students with complex trauma ages 12-21. I create and teach therapy-based, trauma-informed, English Language Arts, visual arts, screenwriting, creative writing, memoir writing, reading, and career readiness curricula.

Out-of-School-Time Program Manager

I worked with students grades 1-12 to promote self-confidence, improve emotional literacy, find comfort in one’s identity, and establish community building through writing. I also developed and led microtrainings for volunteers on supporting students during tragedies, navigating bullies, leaving implicit bias behind, incorporating social emotional learning and the universal design for learning, using strengths-based vs. deficits-based language, improving student self-advocacy, working with neurodivergent learners, preventing, mitigating, and restoring harm, and applying best strategies for student engagement.

Juvenile Justice Teaching Artist

In conjunction with WriteGirl/Bold Ink Writers & The Arts for Healing and Justice Network, I have worked mentoring and leading creative writing workshops for teens in juvenile detention and probation centers across Los Angeles.
